Why Sydney teams call us.

Sydney is Australia's corporate and private equity capital. Much of the CTO work here is getting a technology story through investor or sponsor diligence, and standing up senior engineering leadership that was not there yet.

Sydney is Australia's corporate headquarters. Banks, insurers, property trusts and ASX boards sit within a few kilometres of each other, and private equity runs deep.

"We are raising, and our technology story will not survive a serious investor's diligence."
"We have engineers, but nobody senior enough to own architecture, hiring and the hard trade-offs."
"Our last CTO left, or we cannot justify a full-time one yet. The decisions will not wait."
"Every vendor is selling us AI and we have no independent voice in the room."
"The build is slipping and we cannot tell if it is the team, the scope or the architecture."

What we do

What a fractional CTO actually owns.

Every engagement starts with a 30-minute call. If we cannot tell you something useful in that window, we do not take the work on.

01

Architecture and strategy

The calls that are expensive to reverse: build or buy, platforms, data model, AI strategy and the order you do it in.

02

Hiring and team design

We write the specs, sit on the panel, design the org and onboard senior hires, so the team gets better, not just bigger.

03

Vendor and AI evaluation

An independent voice across the table. We run the bake-offs, read contracts for lock-in, and tell you when not to buy.

04

Board and investor story

The architecture narrative, roadmap and risk register that hold up in diligence, raise or sale.

05

Delivery and velocity

Why the build is slipping, and the plain fixes: scope discipline, process and the right seniority in the right seats.

06

Governance and risk

Security, data and AI risk framed for your board and your regulators, not buried in an engineering wiki.

Outcomes

What good looks like.

We measure ourselves on what your team does differently afterwards, not on hours billed.

Diligence-ready

A technology story and risk register that hold up when an investor or acquirer digs in.

Right hires

Senior engineering hires made on a real spec, with us on the panel. No six-month mis-hire to unwind.

Independent

No vendor kickbacks. We tell you when to buy, when to build and when to wait.

2 to 4 days

Embedded leadership at a fraction of a full-time CTO, dialled up or down as you need it.

How we engage

Compliance and data

Built for Australian rules from day one.

We build to the Essential Eight, the Privacy Act and its Australian Privacy Principles, APRA CPS 234 and CPS 230, the SOCI Act and the national Guidance for AI Adoption, plus AUSTRAC and ASIC rules where your sector needs them.

We are headquartered at 81-83 Campbell St, Surry Hills, a short walk from Central. Workshops run at your office or ours.

Essential Eight

Built in, not bolted on.

ASD's eight mitigation strategies are mandatory for Commonwealth entities and now a standard ask in tenders, supply chains and cyber insurance. Most buyers want Maturity Level Two. We design every platform and agent we ship to meet it, and show you the evidence.

01
Application controlOnly approved software runs on servers and workstations.
02
Patch applicationsAutomated patching, with critical fixes inside 48 hours.
03
Office macro settingsMacros off by default, signed and trusted only.
04

05

06
Patch operating systemsSupported versions only, patched on a fixed cadence.
07

Bars show our default target, Maturity Level Two. ASD is consulting on a broader Essentials series to follow the Essential Eight; the current model stays in force until it lands, and we track both.

Australian frameworks

The rules we design to.

Every Australian engagement starts with a map of which obligations apply to you. Then we build the controls into the architecture, so compliance is a property of the system rather than a document.

Questions

What Sydney teams ask.

Straight answers to what Sydney teams ask before they book.

Are you really based in Sydney?

We are headquartered at 81-83 Campbell St, Surry Hills, a short walk from Central. Workshops run at your office or ours. We work with teams across Surry Hills, The CBD, North Sydney, Macquarie Park and Parramatta.

How fast can you start?

A two-week Technical Due Diligence can start the Monday after the scoping call. Larger engagements usually begin one to two weeks out.

Do you work in AUD and to Australian rules?

Yes. We contract and price in AUD. We build to the Essential Eight, the Privacy Act and its Australian Privacy Principles, APRA CPS 234 and CPS 230, the SOCI Act and the national Guidance for AI Adoption, plus AUSTRAC and ASIC rules where your sector needs them.

How is this different from a management consultancy?

We operate. We have built and run production systems and our own products, so the architecture and hiring calls come from people who have lived the consequences.

Will you support a raise or an acquisition?

Yes. Diligence prep, the architecture narrative, data-room materials and sitting in the technical session are core to the work.

Do you support a raise or private equity diligence?

Yes. The technology story, risk register and data-room materials, and we sit in the room for the technical session.

Can you sit on engineering hiring panels?

Yes. We write the spec, sit on the panel and onboard the hire, so you build the right team rather than a bigger one.

Do you actually build, or just advise?

Both, and we never advise without being willing to build. If the answer is Apache Superset, we stand it up. If it is a senior hire, we write the spec and sit on the panel.
